Clay, Ceramics, and Pottery Classes

student glazing large potRomero House Potters (RHP) studio offers adult pottery-clay classes year-round. These include wheel-throwing, handbuilding, sculpture, high and low firing, and raku firing courses. Free open studio hours are available daily to all current students.

Ensuring that students develop a solid understanding of clay–its attributes and its limits–is a major goal of RHP teachers. Learning about appropriate tools and how to use them is another. Following well-established safety practices with equipment and chemicals is still another. Experimenting, following one’s passion, and contributing to a fun and exciting class environment make the experience enjoyable for students and instructors alike.

glazing toolsCourse instructors are artists who are renown in the arts community locally, regionally, and across the US. They are engaged in the activities of a wide variety of affiliates including Southern Arizona Clay Artists (SACA), Tucson Pima Arts Council (TPAC), National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) and Tucson Museum of Art; and participate in workshops and classes at local colleges including Pima Community College. These artists also teach and lead workshops in the community.

Each artist/instructor brings a unique perspective that supports and enhances Romero House Potters studio.
