James A. Jones is a potter and ceramic sculptor. Jim teaches wheel throwing, altering, hand-building and surface treatment including impressing, using oxides and stains and glazing.
Jim’s been pushing artistic boundaries since age four when his pursuits forced his mother to line the walls with drawing paper. This exuberance infuses his work with humor and passion, as he explores paradoxes of the human condition.
He earned a BFA from Kent State University where he studied under world-renowned ceramic artist John Gill. Jim received his MFA from Northern Illinois University.
Jim maintains a studio in Tucson, teaching clay, pottery classes and workshops, and exhibiting throughout the United States. He has enjoyed residencies at Banff, Canada, The St. John’s Pottery, and Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, TN.
Jim currently resides in Tucson, AZ with his partner Darcy and turbo-canine, Daisy.
